I love the Bird in Hand! It is my closest local and I and a bunch of friends are regulars there. Great food, great drinks (although some are a tiny bit pricy) and a great atmosphere. It is not overwhelming like some pubs and you feel that you can just sit and relax for as long as you want with your drink without being disturbed. The bar staff are lovely and really friendly!
It is a basic pub but with lovely little touches and a really homely feel. Absolutely love this place and it throws a great quiz every Sunday too.
Would recommend this to anyone who wants a nice relaxed evening without much fuss and within budget in a lovely little area.

As a recent resident of this lovely part of West London,I was really pleased to see that Bird In Hand was one of my locals. My first visit there on a Sunday afternoon where we had a nice bite to eat with a group of friends. The atmosphere was really warm and friendly, and the staff went out their way to be helpful and cheerful. Expect pub grub but to a very high quality, we had a very good roast followed by the most amazing whiskey and croissant butter pudding.
If you fancy a friendly pub with a great atmosphere without being humped on the bill, then I would definitely recommend this place!

Three friends and i went to the Bird in hand recently on a Saturday afternoon for an early evening meal.

We ordered four meals (Ave £12 ph + drinks) which were paid for upfront, then delivered to the table about 15mins later - without any comment or so much as a "Enjoy your meal".

Food was average - My burger was ok but bit short on cheese for a tenner, My girlfriends fish was absloutely FULL of bones (to the point of leaving 25% due to hassle value -but guess can't really blame them, though no mention of bones on menu), the other two meals were a non-spectacular chicken burger and a rather small serloin steak.

While the place is normally full of unreconstructed bourgeois pram-pushers, there were rugby-lads watching a game loudly on the giant screen (the game, not the lads), which didn't really help the general ambiance.

What really annoyed us was the dismissive attitude of the guys behind the bar towards a £90-100 group of customers. All friendly smiles for Tote-bearing, Birkenstock bloody Guardianistas, But not even a cursory "Afternoon" or "Thanks" for two smart/casual (Jeans and shirt, not Tees!), polite and friendly couples who live around the corner.

Sorry, just got back from Manhattan and the contrast in service could not have been more stark. These guys need to take a look at themselves and take care of new customers - not just their trendy-MILF crowd!
Have your say
