All In London Review
definitely worth staying put for a whole night here
The Gramophone- for so long it’s been the host to one of London’s best club nights, Deviation, but alas that’s moving on to new pastures and leaving this upstairs-downstairs bar and club behind. Never fear though because one glance at the line up that will continue to tick over will give you the good chills as there’s plenty of tech-house, roots, soul, dub-step and pretty much anything else that keeps people dancing, still going on.
Located on Commercial Road, there’s a New York loft feel about it. The tables are all spaced out and surrounded by exposed brickwork, air-con pipes and just about anything else that can jut out of the walls as decoration. DJs play upstairs but the main events are always below ground in the club. The sound-system and the quality of the music bring a mixed crowd from shirts and suits to the backpack types, with the distinct caliber of what’s coming out of the speakers the main attraction here rather than less important ‘qualities’ that some might place high on a Shoreditch venue’s attractions.
Quite unlike the packed evenings are the daytimes where as you’d expect there’s a calmer feel, plus kind of weirdly, a Thai menu. Strange maybe, but main dishes are all good value at around £6.00 or £7.00. Drinks at the bar are the usual lagers like Bitburger and Becks Vier but there’s a simple cocktail list too.
There are plenty of places in Shoreditch to go and although this isn’t on the high street itself, it’s definitely worth staying put for a whole night here.
