I'm sorry to hear the bad reviews but I've used MicroMend 3 times now (twice in the past for iPods & laptop more recently) & I was very satisfied with the result & charges. I didn't have to wait long & they kept all my data. The man didn't speak much but I didn't go there to make friends, I wanted my stuff fixed which is what he did. Definitely would use again.

I left my laptop there and was all great at first but after them not fixing it (not the main issue), they said they would call and were never able to find it.

It took two months to get it back and as of yet I still havent recieved it. Even though they say they have found it, I will see tomorrow.

from what i've read on reviews having found micomend by accident and having had the best sevice possible with my old ibook g3 and upgrading to a g4 with a new hard drive (for my very limited needs) seems strange. russell godfrey is an incredibly knowlegible apple expert, and has fixed the old g4 and upgraded it to work smoothly and reliably. he has also been most helpful to an old ham and explained and put in information that took up more of his time than we expected. horses for courses--i could not reccomend micromend more highly. christopher-north london.

Micromend is the ONLY place I will call and or take my mac to other than the Mac store itself. They have gone out of their way to help me countless times, on the phone for free, AND when I've taken stuff in, done loads more than they charged me for and charged very reasonable rates too. Brilliant.

Micromend were excellent, I had to wait a bit for them to fix my mac book but they told me exactly what was wrong and repaired the on off button with no problem. Now I have a macbook that works, before I had a dead lump of plastic, nuff said...

I had a MacBook given to me which was said to work, but didn't. Didn't switch on or anything and I thought it would just end up sitting on my table as a very expensive piece of decor. I then went into MicroMend....thank goodness I did! Within 10 mins (seriously) I was told what exactly was wrong (water damage and a motherboard chip was damaged), what needed to be done, how much it would cost. No messing about, no waiting around. Went to Apple store previously, spent 20 mins of my lunch waiting only to be told to hand it in for repair. He had some time at that moment to look at my Mac, and it didn't take long before I saw the Apple logo flash on a screen I thought was dead, I was so happy! At every stage, I was told what he was doing to my Mac. So from a dead Mac, to a fully working beauty in about an hour. Its my first Mac and he even talked me through some of the features to help me get the hang of it. And the price I found to be really reasonable. He knows what he is doing, he doesn't try and bombard you with jargon so you're left feeling completely at the mercy of the consulatant (which I hate as I was duped before in buying more then I should!). Clear, concise, fast and reasonable. My tech has a new A&E, and I know it's in safe hands. Thanks guys!

I took a laptop into this place to have the case fixed as, it had come loose at one of the edges and part of the case was cracking.

I haven't given them a 1 because, to be fair, they fixed the problem speedily and, I think, at a reasonable price, though I can't be sure.

However, I simply cannot recommend this place. Firstly, the staff are rude, arrogant, dismissive and condescending. Secondly, I asked for a receipt as I wanted a guarantee of service and was told by the man that fixed the laptop that if the same part broke again it "wasn't his problem". I insisted on having a receipt and he refused, saying that they 'emailed all the receipts out at the end of the day'. I asked him why he couldn't email it to me while I was standing there and he said it wasn't possible. So I have a fixed laptop but no guarantee that it'll last and having had, all in all, a pretty grim experience.

One word. AVOID.

I've never had a worse tech experience. These people treat their customers with incredible disdain, sneering at you merely for needing their help. They pretend that if they don't fix your problem immediately, your computer will be broken forever, then they refuse to tell you when it'll be fixed and how much it'll cost. They told me mine would need 4 hours and 120 pounds; it ended up being 6 hours and 250. The price gouging is astonishing--all they did was replace a few keys and clean the keyboard (for 250 pounds!). They yell at you if you ask questions, they're mean to you while you wait, and they double their price when you have no choice but to pay it. Horrible people at a horrible shop. Please learn from my mistake!

AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Terrible. Patronising, condescending attitude towards customer.

Took my macbook pro to the shop because of boot issues.

After 4 days, they told me it was a logicboard problem which they charge £350 to repair. I decided to collect the laptop and have it repaired elsewhere where i got a quote for half the price to replace the logicboard with a brand new one. I went to the shop to collect the laptop. The owner was miserable and unfriendly when i told him i wasn't taking the job.

When i got to the other repair shop - most of the screws were missing from the chassis and my internal airport card was GONE!!

I called them up about it and the owner got really defensive that i was accusing him of stealing. Well the fact is, it went IN with all the screws and parts, and came out without.

He said he'd give me an airport card if that was my "beef", but said it wouldn't be much use to me if the logic board wasn't working anyway. He wouldn't have said that if he was absolutely confident nobody in his shop had access to the inside of my computer... And combined with his condescending attitude i became immediately suspicious.

Incidentally - we replaced the logic board with a brand new one, and now the machine doesn't even fire up. The computer is worse off than when i took it in.

So either they mis-diagnosed the problem (in which case don't trust them), or they've used the insides of my machine to fix someone else's (in which case - AVOID AT ALL COSTS). Or they just had a go at it to make sure that they get the job.

Anyhow i got the whole machine repaired including a new airport card and parts for 2/3 of the price they charged me.

This company has absolutely ZERO INTEGRITY, AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE.

A horrible experience. Avoid these guys in my opinion. Zero on the friendly front, not keen on making business. I brought my G5 in which was not turning on, the first gentleman to help me out was super-negative about the world around him and his work. As if he was doing me a favor, this often happens in services, where it seems a ball-ache for them to be doing their jobs. The problem was identified and I got a general quote which I was going to confirm with my colleagues and return to them.

Upon return, there was no one around. I waited for about five minutes while calling for the two individuals that work there. I was standing in the shop. My computer was sitting there, easy to snatch from the doorway and I thought about just taking it from what seemed to be vacant shop. I screamed even louder to alert their attention, then decided to walk into the back of the shop, behind the counter to try and see if they were there. (Common decency to let them know I was going to be taking my computer back.)

The individual that I had not met glared at me as I saw him from the top of the stairs. He pointed up, towards the inside of the shop and said very sharply, "Back into the shop, back into the shop!" I felt like I was in school. I explained that I had been there for several minutes, calling and awaiting them. He explained, in an even more raised voice, that it didnt matter and I was to never do such a thing as to enter his shop in that manner.

As I told him that I was going to take my computer, he sarcastically snarled at me, saying, "Good luck." Its a pity that I didn't get to see how good / bad they were / are, but I couldn't hand out money or ask for services from such a pair of miserable, discourteous technicians.

Good luck to them though, and a word to you, Im tired of people in the work-force that render the poorest service to the consumer and appear to not enjoy what it is that they are doing. Dont go to Micromend, they would rather not have us.
Response from Russell Godfrey Owner
on your first point... about doing you a favor.. yes he was !!!

the parts alone to perform your repair would cost the best part of your quote !!!
if he was to quote the job correctly, the price would have been more than double.
but we know that your machine is so old now and is not worth to spend more than the price you were quoted.
there was no profit on the job for us, we do that repair for the challenge, and to help save the environment.

as for the rest of your complaint..
well I guess in your country it is OK to just walk into a strangers house,
when the front door was accidentally left open ?

you really do make yourself sound bad talking about screaming and stealing...
no wonder you were treated like a naughty little boy !

Outstanding service. My own company's IT department took 48 hours to tell me that it would need Apple to fix it and it would cost £450. It took Micromend exactly three and a half minutes to do the job on the spot and then wanted to charge me nothing for doing it. This review is my payment. Would recommend them to anyone.

These guys know their stuff. The hard drive on my 3-year old Dell flamed out and showed no signs of life when I tried fixing it. Larry at Micromend was able to rebuild it and recover all my documents. It took a two weeks, but it runs better than it did when I first bought it. He was kind enough to install superior anti-virus software on it as well. I'd used them prior to this and they are fair in their pricing (£300 to rebuild the hard drive, clean and restore the files).
They aren't always accurate in their assessments of how long work will take, but in my experience if they quote you a price they stick with it, even if it takes longer than planned. They'll call you to let you know when your computer is ready, but if you want updates, it's best to give them a ring.
The cluttered office is right near the Googe Street Tube Station. You have to buzz in to enter and I'd be lying if I said the customer service was polished, but bottom line these guy's are great with computers and I'd recommend them to anyone in London looking for computer help.

So, you're in Tottenham Court Road (Tottenham Street actually by Goodge Street underground)and you have a PC or Mac repair and you come across Micromend. So, it's not a gleaming, neat shop with dolly-birds serving. So, the shop looks empty and is locked because the guys are working downstairs. So, you get inside and it looks like a PCB graveyard. So? So what? I cannot vouch for the PC repairs but to survive on this street you have to know your stuff and Russell is the man there for Apple - and he does!! You won't get invited for a cup of tea or to join a free draw for an iPad but your Apple hardware will be repaired. No gloss - just stuff sorted. For a very fair price.

Rude, incompetent, unsightly. AVOID

Just to let you know my experience of Micro Mend - I went there on Friday afternoon. Explained the problem with the mouse, and he started going off on one about RAM - "well, having more ram is like having a bigger desk...you can do more things" etc. I told him that I didn't need more RAM and that he hadn't listened to me: there was a problem with my mouse. He then booted my Macbook off his own external hard drive to see whether it was a hardware problem or a software problem. Turned out it was still there on his drive, so its a hardware problem. That narrowed it down. He told me to
go to the Apple Store for a cheap fix. So far so good.

HOWEVER.

THEN the idiot just removed his drive without shutting down my computer first, and now it won't boot up. Went back there to complain but just got insolence. I am now faced with a much more severe problem - the thing won't boot up even from a boot disk and I can't reinstall the OS because the computer doesn't recognise the hard drive. So I'm taking it along to the Apple store for what will probably be a lengthy and expensive repair - and if that fat bald guy had only just listened to what I had said, rather than corrupting my machine. I'm trying to think of a way of assaulting him legally - throwing some eggs?

Just wanted to let you know in case you thought of going there... even if you had a positive maybe he messed something up that you haven't noticed yet... keep an eye on your computer!

Absolutely horrible. My two year old laptop was glitchy but operational. They 'fixed' it after two weeks so that it switched on perfectly in the shop. I paid them (they insisted on cash), but the laptop no longer worked by the time I got it home. I took it back again, and they've now had it for two months, and are telling me that it doesn't work at all anymore. So I've paid £200 to have my machine broken.

DO NOT USE!!!

Absolutely terrible service, probably the worst I've had the misfortune to come across. They're rude and extremely slow, I was without my mac-book for over a month after they said it would take them a couple of days. Eventually I got it back fixed and it has been as good as gold so far, I also managed to get money off after the ordeal but never the less I wouldn't want to go through it again and would advise anyone to spend a bit of time researching alternatives as these guys are best avoided at all costs.

I broke my USB by accident and almost lost all the data. THe computer didn't even recognize it wat plugged in the port. After I visited a few computer services where they either told me it's dead without possibility for recovery or that it would take two days with minimum chance to recover I went to MicroMend. One of the guys told me come back in half an hour and we'll see. And he managed to recover all the data! not the flash stick but data was much more important for me. He gave me a very good price for such a short period he took to repair it. I didn't get any receipt afterwards..which would make me feel safer, but I checked right after I came home and everything was fine! I think their attitude towards the paperwork might seem a bit nonstandard but they seem to be very busy already without it. And they do a great professional job.

My Ipod Classic is two years old and gets a LOT of use, as such the battery was dying on its feet, on top of that I was no longer able to synch it to my PC as such I was unable to add or delete albums. The Apple store told me that this problem was unsolvable and my only course of action was to buy a new Ipod. At the point of despair a friend of mine recommended Micromend, he said the guy who ran the place was a genius and could fix anything at a cheap price. I went there and indeed the guy put in a new battery and sorted out the synching issues, the ipod now works perfectly and only cost £30, it was ready the next day.
However do be warned, the man who served me, (big bald guy) was unbelievably rude and arrogant, I left my ipod there overnight and as I knew very little about them, I asked for a receipt to prove that I had left it there, the guy moaned, saying I would have to wait 20 minutes and that if I lost the recepit i would have to pay £80 to get my ipod back. His attitude was really terrible.
That said, he did a great job and for a very good price, only his attitude stops me giving his company 10 out of 10.

They get the job done (eventually - always long waiting times as they are usually busy) but they are rude & arrogant and the customer service is some of the worst i have ever encountered. For example they WILL NOT call you when something is ready as standard, simple refusal to just give me a ring when they'd finished the job so I'd know that my computer was ready. They know people need their help and act as if they are doing you a huge favour just by having you in the shop. If there was an alternative i'd use it but they SEEM to be good at what they do and are at least straight with you as far as I can tell (so who knows really).

Go prepared for arrogance and maybe a wait and you wont have a problem with them.

Just phoned these guys about a keyboard repair, they gave me great advice and were honest enough to say that it would be best for me (in this instance) to go to Apple, so saving me a few quid and losing them a fairish amount. How good is that?

I've used Micromend a number of time and they have always been brilliant, good value and above all honest and transparent (as above). Can't recommend them enough.

I went into Micromend when I needed to transfer all of my data from my harddrive onto a portable drive. I got some very high quotes and long turn around times from places such as PC world. Micromend did it quickly and very cheaply. They are also very friendly and very knowledgable. When you don't know whether what someone says is honest because of lack of technical ability, it is very refreshing to have found these guys. I think you can trust them.

I spilled liquid on my computer two days ago, went to the store where I bought it and gave me a repair estimate of over 800 pounds, they said I had to buy a new mother board, memory, optical drive and case with keyboard! Luckily, through a friend I found out about Micromend and I went today straight after work, they opened my laptop, cleaned and fixed and have it with me now running it was ready in 30 minutes! and the best thing is that I only had to pay for the labour, no new parts like the store was trying to sell me. That is definitely the place to go if something is not working with your PC or Mac.
