Open for breakfast and lunch, serving the best local, organic produce. Overlooking the lake in Victoria Park, the café is in the old domed pavilion. Breakfasts include eggs florentine and full cooked breakfasts, lunch is fancy sandwiches, burgers and salads but leave room for the tasty home made cakes.

All In London Review

Delicious brunch in a deliciously tranquil setting.

Way back when in the not so distant past it was the likes of sherbet dips, ‘13% extra free’ cans of Rio and soggy tuna-mayo sandwiches that you’d find in park pavilions. Thankfully for the outdoorsy foodie, things have changed. Now a weekend stroll can be topped off with artisanal bread, poached eggs and homemade baked beans – in Victoria Park at least.

Coming from a person who thought that departing from Heinz baked beans with a fry-up is sacrilegious, it is indicative of The Pavilion Café’s culinary capabilities that on my trip here I was forced into conceding that perhaps that’s not the case. Not always. The homemade sauce, mix of organic beans and rich texture had me swallowing my objections and basking in the delight of seeing the canned ones usurped. Overlooking the spruced up, rejuvenated lake in Victoria Park, The Pavilion Café has the kind of location that makes sense for a fry-up. It goes hand-in-hand with physical activity of the type that leaves you dining on fatty bacon, sausage and black pudding feeling guilt-free.

Open for breakfast and lunch, the café serves a concise menu that boasts of using the best in local, organic produce. Choose from granola, eggs royale and mushroom on toast for breakfast and from hearty sandwiches and salads for lunch. I can recommend the Neal’s Yard 3 cheese toastie.

The space bustles on weekends, it’s bright and airy interior clearly the first - or the last stop - on most visitors’ trips to the park. Inside, the small room means sharing tables, while outside, terrace seating offers great views of the boating lake.

If the prospect of a brunch at The Pavilion Café doesn’t inspire you to get up out of bed and into the park on a Sunday morning before the clock strikes noon, then nothing will.

So, you've been dragged up at the crack of dawn to stroll through Victoria Park in the freezing cold. This would be bad except for the fact that the Pavilion Cafe is perfect. Set in the heart of the park, next to the boating lake, the breakfasts (and coffee) here are fantastic.

It makes getting up for the weekend walk a pleasure!
