Useful Tips from AIL Users

Phone up before going to the store to see if they have what you're looking for- I have been turned away a lot of times as they do not have my size in shoes or they do not have the correct style of leotard.

Helpful staff, and a wide choice of leotards and shoes. The staff have good knowledge of the dance schools in the area. Prices slightly expensive, however as it is a small business this can be overlooked. The shoes (satin flats) I bought recently were bad quality. They split after one use and when I went back to the store the staff said that this was to be expected. I think this was an exception as usually the shoes are of good quality and obviously satin shoes are much less hardy then leather ones. Also, the RAD required leotard for vocational grades (Intermediate Foundation, Intermediate, Advanced 1 etc.) is not sold there, which is a little disappointing. I have never bought pointe shoes here, so I cannot comment about that. Altogether, though, friendly service and good atmosphere in the store, yet the quality leaves a little to be desired!

Julienne generally have a broad range of dancewear. However, I am a professional dancer and all my needs and dancewear are sometimes not supplied. The pricing is reasonable for a small business. The staff are helpful and will reserve things for you if you do not have the correct amount of money

I just called the dancewear shop and a very nice and helpful lady answered. She asked about the type of uniform for ballet we needed and advised me about the different typoes telling me what a proper ballet leotard was called and that it was usually short sleeved. She went and checked the availability and also then went off again to check the availability for tights and was very encouraging. She even asked which ballet school suggesting that she would be able to advise on their preferences.

very helpful, polite and friendly, i am going to pick up the uniform tonight!

Rude person in the shop, arrived at 5:10, open sign and locked door. Checked opening hours and we were well in time (me and two children - one 4). I had paid for parking and had only a size exchange to make (plus I really do not live near), did not really fancy coming back just because the lady closed 20 minutes earlier. Knocked a few times at the glass door, while she was at the counter, - we were absolutely ignored. Then after a final knock she turns and shouts that she is doing the till. Which was already diffucult to understand all this she shouted as we were waiting outside in the cold. It took her quite a while to finish her job. We waited in the meantime locked outside. When I finally got in I was fuming, firstly about the bad manners, secondly because she could not even be bothered to come at the door while counting he money (like a decent human being) to tell us - and not to rudely shout at us. If they want to do the cashing before closing time, they could at least have the courtesy to come at the door and say and apologise for the inconvenience. I am not going to go into that shop again you can rest assured. She threw us out of the shop like dogs throwing my son's coat at me. Very poor manners, does not deserve a single client. Find yourself an other shop.

Response from Marina Hollis Director Julienne Dancewear Ltd
I apologize that you felt you were badly treated and I agree it is not acceptable. The problem could have arisen because the till is situated by the front door and as such any cashing up has to be done with the door locked, especially since during that time a lot of thefts were taking place. As such we now have a policy that all cashing up is done after 5:30pm to cause the minimum amount of disruption. I also believe that the member of staff who was working at this time has now left the company. Apologies once again for any inconvenience caused.

I bought on-line with Julienne because of competitive pricing. There was one item missing in the parcel I received. They quickly sent me out the missing item. I returned one item which cost me postage. They refunded me and I couldn't see the refund on my account so I rang. The lady was very defensive and kept repeating that she had never had anyone say they hadn't received their refund before. But she was helpful enough to give me the Paypal reference. I took responsibility for ringing Paypal and the problem was sorted immediately. But it was one of those unpleasant phone calls where you know that they are not trained in customer care. There was no "I am sorry that you are experiencing this problem, do get back to us if you cannot resolve the issue with Paypal". I guess a small company (and they are a small company, able to only answer on-line queries intermittently as staff not always in) doesn't have the budget for training but it was a poor enough service that I probably won't shop there again unless their prices get really really even more competitive. By the way, their comp slip says they operate out of Kent and Croydon, but in fact the on-line runs out of Croydon only and the other shop is really unhelpful if you ring them not realising this!
