The first time I visited Gary it was to take in a bike that had had some work done by another bike shop and Gary pointed out a problem with the back wheel which could have been serious and should have been spotted by the other bike shop. Gary takes great care in saying what work is needed, his prices seem fair, he knows what he is talking about and I have been going to him ever since. I also like supporting an independent shop where you speak to the owner.

Just had my 6 month service - the bike feels like new and, as always, the excellent servicing make riding to work a real pleasure. You'll never see me on the Northern Line again! If you want the best technical service expertise, Crazy Horse Balham is it.

Gary and his team are the best. Bought my bike there and I service it regularly there - runs like clockwork - I zoom comfortably all over London. Real professionals, friendly and excellent advice. Don't go anywhere else.

In praise of independent cycle shop, Crazy Horse Cycles is a glowing example of the benefits of using independent retailers. Just had my bike serviced by Crazy Horse, they saved me money by getting a broken shift lever replaced by SRAM for free under guarantee. Their expertise also greatly assisted in my being able to negotiate a replacement broken rear wheel from the retailer where the bike was originally bought.

Crazy horse went above and beyond my expectation in servicing my bike, and assisting in keeping costs down, I personally appreciated their assistance as a first time customer of this shop. as an disappointed ex customer of Evan cycles, Crazy Horse remind me why local and independent is always best.

This was my first real experience of Crazy Horse and to say that I am pleased would be an understatement.

Great service, friendly crewcrew and very affordable.

Would recommend it, 100%.

Crazy Horse always have the weird little things I'm looking for, and often seem to have the cheapest price of the 4 or so bike shops closest to it. Furthermore they are helpful and give advice even when they know it'll mean you pay them less. They've helped me fit things I bought elsewhere, and most recently they managed to fix my horrifically bent front wheel, saving me buying a new one. Several other shops said they thought it was unmendable but it came back from Crazy Horse good as new. Definitely worth a visit.

It felt like a battle getting the information that I needed from one if the most unhelpful shop owners I have ever experienced and then there's the work. I was charged for a gold service when I really did not need one. The cassette fitted was in correct and I had to point it out. The seat position despite being obvious was incorrectly put back on...just lousy. I felt cheated out of my money and wished I had gone to an evans. It was really that bad.
Response from Gary Coleman Director
This comment is a little disingenuous. The customer has failed to mention that they hired a transport case from us for the cycle and asked that we pack the cycle for transport. When the cycle was delivered to us for boxing up we noted it was filthy and needed a full service as the chain, cassette and brakes were, in our view, all worn. We nevertheless simply did as instructed and boxed the cycle for transportation.

The customer then returned to the shop a week or so later and asked if we would rebuild the cycle the following day if she dropped the boxed cycle off the following morning. At this point we indicated that, from memory, we thought the cycle could do with a service as we thought we noted a number of issues (such as brakes, chain and cassette we're worn) existed with the cycle when we boxed it up a week earlier.

The customer pressed us for information on precisely what was required under service but, obviously, we we're unable to indicate more clearly from memory what would be necessary. We are sorry that the customer felt our inability to precisely recall with any level of surety what remedial work would be required on a cycle we had seen a week earlier, and which had been used, we presumed, for a week of hard riding in the intervening period, was contrived to irritate. The customer, irked by our inability to remember precisely what would be required to bring the cycle to good order, declined our advice at this time but asked us to simply rebuild the cycle and indicate what work would be required under service once we had sight of the cycle the following day.

We rebuilt the cycle the following morning as asked and, in detail, indicated by telephone to the customer the various things that should be attended to under service which included a new chain, cassette, brake inserts as well as a rear hub and headset service. We indicated, given the work required, the most economic/value for money service would be our Gold service at £99 labour as we would completely dismantle and rebuild the cycle. The alternative would be to charge for a Silver service at £69 and then charge individually for the hub service £15 (reduced to £7.50 if done as part of a Silver service) and the Headset service £25 (reduced to £12.50) totalling £89. For the additional £10 we would service the front hub and bottom bracket, work valued at £40 (reduced to £20). An overall saving to the customer of £10 if carried out as a Gold service. In our view this represented better value for money. Our advice was declined.

We said no more and left it at that indicating our fees for rebuilding the cycle and indexing front and rear derailleurs at £18. The customer complained that the cost of rebuilding the cycle was not the same (£10) as for originally boxing the cycle? We pointed out that we had not needed to re index gears when placing the cycle in the box originally, but on return to us the gears we're skewed and needed proper indexing in order to shift properly. My experience has been very good. Gary and his mechanic did a great job in identifying a fault with my frame, having realised that the cantilever brakes they were trying to fit would not do so because the brake bosses has been welded at the wrong height. Not only did they help package and ship the frame back to the manufacturer, they wrote a very accurate analysis for the manufacturer. I was really impressed as it allowed me to get the problem sorted quickly with the manufacturer

This shop opened last year over a year ago round the corner from where I live - in that time I've had my hybrid serviced and my mountain bike rear wheel re-spoked here. I was very happy with the service price and the customer service. My hybrid service was a good £30 cheaper than what you pay at Evans Wandsworth... and a better/more honest job as he didn't replace stuff unless it was absolutely necessary. The guy knows his stuff without being either patronising/full of his opinions like a lot bike shop staff can often be. Will definately continue to use it...
