Triphal food is ok, quite tasty and nicely presented. Little things irk, however. On a recent visit we wanted a jug of iced water but I discovered they only have one jug in the restaurant so we were constantly having to ask for water. My group had booked a couple of weeks in advance of the visit, but we found a whole street had booked it on the same night-an annual event for them apparently. As more people arrived, my group could not hold a conversation as the other group was much bigger and therefore louder, particularly as they were standing around on top of us. We later discovered they were three chairs short; another reason why they were keen for us to go. One of the group actually told us they wanted our table! The manager should have told us another group was booked in and we could have gone elsewhere, but he didn’t . Obviously he was happy to take our money in the hope we’d eat quickly then leave , ready for him to set up for the other group. Won’t be going to Tryphal a

Brilliant local restaurant with some of the best Indian food in London - and that's saying something! Friendly service and great value too.

Although everything on the menu is delicious (I live nearby and have tried most of the dishes on offer), the host is excellent at making recommendations to suit your tastes. My personal favourite is the prawn pumpkin curry with lemon rice.

Definitely worth making the trip to Southfields for this little gem. Don't be tempted by the larger, slicker Namada restaurant next door. It has nothing on the warmth and quality of Triphal!

This is almost certainly the best meal out in Southfields. I'm not associated with them, but after our fifth visit and wondering why not more people know about this gem, I've been inspired to post a few reviews in the hopes of spreading the word.

The food is excellent - tasty, nuanced and well-balanced. Try the Chicken Chops or the Lamb Salli, or the venerable Tandoori Chicken.

The service is very friendly. It feels like coming around to someone's house and getting their best.

Even the prices are good, a steal at around £8 for a main course. Most Indian restaurants that serve modern, well-presented and tasty food would charge twice that.

Triphal is right next to another, decidedly average, but bigger Indian (or rather, Bengali, I think) restaurant. Go for the smaller restaurant on the right. You'll walk away wondering why it isn't heaving with people, with a big smile on your face and plans to go back.
