Ribon Japanese Restaurant

I have mainly had take out food from here. The food is first class, among the very best Japanese take-away in London. This is the real deal not some wannabe Japanese. The restaurant downstairs is interesting in a quirky 70s sort of way. The service is very Japanese, hence excellent.
The only real improvement that could be made is to retrain the guy who hands out the completed orders in the take away upstairs..... he's not particularly friendly, in fact he's not friendly in the slightest which is a real shame as the people who take the orders are exceptionally smiley and friendly

Ribon is a quirky venu - refurbished upstairs (for the smarter ambience business lunch) but downstairs remains, thankfully, the same; decor a little distressed and owners own paintings on the wall. This serves as the evening's Karaoke zone. The food, for what it is and price, is amongst the best I have had in London - nothing at all overworked and fancy, just good, simple and fresh ingredients served with genuine enthusiasm. Not overpriced just becase it is Japanese food either. Popular with local Japanese and Korean businessmen/women, but all are treated to the same genuine local restuarant welcome. If you want something out of the ordinary, unself conscious, simple but good authentic Japanese food which is prepared well, and a restuarant you are made to feel part of when you visit - this is the one to beat.

I booked Ribon for my 30th this weekend and had an excellent night, so I wanted to make sure there's a review on here for them. Other sites already have good reviews, and I'd been to Ribon a few years back, so I was expecting a good night and wasn't dissapointed.
We had the downstairs room, which was great for a large group. There were around 40 of us, but from 30+ would be fine. The food was excellent - they'll serve it seating or buffet style, it's up to you.
Staff all extremely friendly and attentive without getting in the way. There are swankier places to do karaoke in London, but they're often well overpriced (and a bit of dated decor add's to the atmosphere).
Excellent value, excellent food, top night out.
