SHAKA ZULU and Stevie Ray’s Sessions presents the inimitable London-based singer/songwriter, Melissa James.

Drawing upon the soul and gospel she listened to in her youth – and her latter day music influences, Melissa James has a unique collection of songs, which are also featured on her debut album “Day Dawns” which are crafted from a place of depth and integrity. She says of her style: “Think Lizz Wright meets Amos Lee as they cross paths with blues man, Eric Bibb and you’d be getting close”.

Melissa James’ music fuses her love of blues, folk, country and jazz bundled in a package of soul, taking you on mini detours that draw you into her sometimes raw and innermost thoughts. Stripped down and combined with the velvety power through which she delivers, expect a performance that will leave your spine tingling.

Melissa James is joined by her band which features guitarist Tom Gamble, Paul Southern on bass and Tim Nugent on drums. Ross Lorraine will also join the group on piano.

Melissa James’ debut album “Day Dawns” was released in 2012 to critical acclaim and achieved a Top 10 position in the EuroAmerican Chart.
