This Spring, Kahlúa, the original Mexican coffee liqueur will be collaborating with bartending collective, The Liquorists and East London coffee legends, Nude Espresso to host ‘The Kahlúa Coffee House’ as part of the London Coffee Festival, in East London’s Old Truman Brewery from 3-6 April 2014.

The pop-up experience, which has been inspired by the unique heritage of Veracruz, Mexico, will feature Mexican inspired coffee cocktails such as the Kahlúa Espresso Martini created using Nude Espresso’s ‘East Espresso Blend’ and the Mocha made using Kahlúa, tequila, cherry coke and chocolate ice cream. The Kahlúa Coffee House will also showcase a Cold Brew coffee cocktail, developed especially by The Liquorists and Nude Espresso for the festival. In addition to this, interactive multi-sensory master classes will explore the four key components of Kahlúa – coffee, rum, vanilla and sugar cane.

The Liquorists will be demystifying the science behind cocktail making; explaining how easy it is to make cocktails in a coffee house setting, or in the comfort of the home. They will be showcasing ingenious cocktail creations made using coffee machines and unique dried blends which can be brewed in a cafetière. Visitors will also be invited to join in discussions around the inter-play between coffee and cocktails, such as the role of flavour-matching, terroir, provenance, quality and heritage, as well as general talks and debates on the culture of coffee.

Kahlúa is featured as a key ingredient in the modern day classic cocktail, Espresso Martini; the original coffee cocktail. This link re-iterates Kahlúa’s strong credentials within the coffee world, whilst the Kahlúa Coffee House explores the similarities between cocktail making and coffee, including the rise of the coffee house as a social space. The project provides the perfect location and opening platform for guests to explore these similarities. Following its residency in Leeds and Manchester, the Kahlúa Coffee House will head to East London; at the heart of one of the most vibrant coffee scenes in London.

To celebrate the residency, local bar Calloh Callay will be serving the’ Kahlúa Callay’ during the London Coffee Festival. Guests can book into the coffee master classes, directly at the London Coffee Festival.
