Luna Lounge hosts an unusual night of dancing to vintage music from continental Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America, under the moniker Planet Go-Go. DJ Fat Matt Parker of Hollywood’s Soulphonic club will focus on exotic adaptations of American soul, funk, and garage rock. The night will also feature special themed cocktails, video projections, and a quiz game in which guests try to guess what countries tracks come from.

Music for the night will include foreign genres such as European yé-yé, Thai go-go music, Indian Bollywood, Ghana highlife, Ethio-jazz, and Brazilian jovem guarda. Guests can expect to hear such artists as Jacques Dutronc (France), Surapon (Thailand), Asha Bhosle (India), Mulatu Astatke (Ethiopia), the Fevers (Brazil), and Bola Johnson (Nigeria), among others. DJ Parker promises a mix of deep, funky grooves and campy fun. “I’m serious about this music, but humour is part of it too. Let’s face it, ‘Walk on the Wild Side’ just sounds funny in Finnish!”

Special themed cocktails will be international classics with a vintage pop music spin, such as the “Mod-garita” and the “Singapore Swing”. The club will also feature video projections of vintage foreign film and Scopitone clips, as well as a quiz game called “Name That Nation”, in which guests try to guess the country of origin of five songs, for a prize to be determined. Songs chosen for the contest are not recognized by the popular music app Shazam, so mobile phones won’t help much!
