Join musicians from Ensemble Viscera who are running an exciting, experimental and energetic music-making course for 9-14 year olds on the 14th and 15th April at Pembroke House.

What to expect: Over the two days the young musicians will get the opportunity to explore their imagination and get creative with their instruments. The young musicians will be thinking like composers and discovering ways of turning their own ideas into brand new music.

April’s music-making activities are inspired by a piece of music by composer George Crumb called Eleven Echoes of Autumn. This a wonderful piece full of unusual sounds that take the listener into a vivid musical world full of singing birds, ringing bells and haunted landscapes. We’ll be discovering all of these sounds as well as making some musical worlds of our own!

At the end of day 2, friends and family will be invited to come and see and hear what we have been up to. The group will perform the new music that has been created during the workshops, and there will be a performance of Eleven Echoes of Autumn by Ensemble Viscera live and up-close!

Who can apply: Ages 9-14. No experience of composing or improvising necessary (there’ll be plenty of time to do this when you get here!) but you will need to be able to play an instrument or sing. Percussionists/drummers welcome – we have a supply of percussion instruments and drum kit that can be used. We welcome musicians from all cultural backgrounds.

What to bring: Your instrument (or voice) and some lunch and snacks.

Who with: Workshops are led by violinist Sarah Hill and composer Tom Coult alongside musicians from Ensemble Viscera. Ensemble Viscera are a group of young professional musicians who are passionate about performing contemporary music and bringing this music to new audiences.

How to book: The workshops will be completely free but there are limited places so must be booked in advance. For more information, please visit the website at www.tomcoult.com/contact/workshops, where there is a short contact form to book your place. Alternatively you can email Sarah Hill at [email protected] or call 07588592231.
