Mark Boyce is proud to present an exhibition of Motionist paintings by the Anglo-Swiss artist Moritz Baumann.

Motionism is a new position that calls for the tactical experiment of taking the 'genres' seriously again.

It asserts that so much progress has been made in the science of seeing and the politics of representing since the last time genre painting was taken seriously that to self-consciously paint from this position now must have a chance of producing interesting work.

This exhibition will be in three rooms, each dedicated to a genre – the nude, the plein airlandscape (executed in France) and the studio landscape (Swiss alpine scenes).

Moritz's beautiful painting style can be described as an open kind of realism informed by slowly-developed colour theories, experiments in application and a sensitivity to symbolistic inflections.

The paintings are all presented in reclaimed vintage frames, chosen by the artist and seen by him as integral to the works.
