The Crossness Engines Trust, a well-known industrial heritage site in London, is having a transport themed steaming day.

The site offers some of the most spectacular ornamental cast ironwork to be found in the world today. It is also one of the only two Grade I listed industrial buildings in London. As part of the transport themed steaming day, visitors can choose to learn about the world of steam engineering in industrial Britain. There will numerous chances to view some spectacular steam wagons. The open day also features some fire engines, motorcycles and some rather impressive vintage cars in pristine condition. As usual, as well as children, this Crossness steaming day will appeal to engineering and steam buffs, not to mention those into industrial heritage and indeed anyone who enjoys a spectacle and has a sense of wonder.

For those desiring to learn more about the original rotative beam engines, the recently restored beam engine, Prince Consort, the world’s largest working rotative beam engine and will be in steam throughout the day.

The site also offers refreshments in its café and souvenirs and gifts are easily bought at the museum shop. The Crossness Pumping Station is located approximately 6 miles from Junction 1 of the M25. The nearest rail station is Abbey Wood from where there are frequent bus services.
