An opportunity to hear Beethoven's last three Piano Sonatas performed by acclaimed British pianist James Lisney in the beautiful and intimate setting of the 1901 Arts Club.

Beethoven's last three piano sonatas are considered to be some of the most profoundly philosophical music - music which speaks of shared values, and what it is to be a sentient, thinking human being. From the memorable lyrical opening of the Op. 109 to the final fugue, that most life-affirming and solid of musical devices, of the Op 110, to the “ethereal halo” that is contained in some of the writing of the Arietta of the Op 111, the message and intent of this music is clear.

This concert is in aid of OperationSmile, a medical charity which provides reconstructive facial surgery for children in over sixty countries.

Located close to Waterloo Station, the 1901 Arts Club recreates the atmosphere and ethos of the nineteenth-century cultural salon and is dedicated to supporting artistic expression, conversation, collaboration and the exchange of ideas in informal surroundings.

Capacity is limited to forty-five people - EARLY BOOKING ADVISABLE

The upstairs bar and lounge will be open for the exclusive use of guests before and after the concert.

British pianist James Lisney enjoys a distinguished reputation for his interpretations of the Viennese classics, performing Beethoven and Schubert cycles in major venues such as the Berlin Philharmonie, the Leipzig Gewandhaus and London`s South Bank Centre. In recent seasons he has hosted residencies at New York`s Carnegie Hall and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.
