Canary Wharf Group will soon be the proud host of a new photographic exhibition, Carpe Momentum, a stunning and highly expressive selection of works by Christopher Jonas, both business mogul and burgeoning photographer. The exhibition also marks his welcome return to Canary Wharf: Christopher Jonas was a member of the Canary Wharf Group Board from 1999 to 2004, and his involvement with the estate stretches back to 1993.

In this imaginative collection of sixty-four photographs, Jonas reveals and explores his abiding interest in people and their places in the world. Playing with colour and monochromatic imagery, Jonas’ photography is sensitive, poignant and highly personal, encouraging the viewer to contemplate themes of the self and one’s perceptions of the world on a profound and refreshingly new level. A notable spontaneity permeates his work and street photography represents some of Jonas’ most lively work in this exhibition.

The layout of the exhibition has been designed by the artist in a series of six compositions, which give variety, not only of place, time and mood but also of both intense and restrained configurations.

Jonas has worked creatively in photography for some forty years, first with a 35 mm camera then turning more recently to digital format, for which he had a period of intensive study with Ivan Coleman, Head of Photography in Fine Art at Goldsmiths, University of London. Having established himself with an impressive business portfolio, Jonas has brought his second career as a photographer to the fore more recently.

Jonas says “Taking a photograph is not difficult but getting it right is hard. I strive for technical perfection but finally, the picture is the art.”

The arrival of this photographic exhibition at Canary Wharf is an important milestone for Canary Wharf Group as it continues to expand its artistic horizons. Having recently hosted impressive names from the world of sculpture such as Michael Lyons and Eilis O’Connell, the addition of this two-dimensional medium will provide an interesting contrast and promises to be a feast for the eyes and for the mind.

Some of the photographs are for sale as limited edition prints. All sales proceeds will be donated to Kids Company (Registered Charity No 1068298).
