For this celebration of Shakespeare, City of London Sinfonia are joined by the Holst Singers in Southwark Cathedral, the Bard’s Parish Church when he lived and worked in London. The first half features luscious English music for voice inspired by Shakespeare’s words from Purcell, Finzi and Vaughan Williams with a world premiere by the young composer Owain Park. Mendelssohn’s evergreen music for Shakespeare’s irreverent and popular A Midsummer Night’s Dream completes the programme, alongside extracts from the play.
