To coincide with the First World War Centenary, TESTBED1 in Battersea will host Chronicles of Courage, a film art installation by Savage Mills, supported by Arts Council England.
The piece consists of filmed performance, archive footage, photographs, animation and music to represent contrasting experiences of World War One. Three personal perspectives are explored, inspired by the diaries and letters of a Red Cross Nurse, Margaret Gregg, the letters and newspaper articles of her brother Arthur, a serving officer on the front line and the poems of his fiancé, Marian, separated from him by the war.
Ernest Mills says: "Chronicles of Courage was inspired by the personal accounts of a family who through service, endured the horrors of World War 1. In the light of current global conflicts, the letters could have been written yesterday and serve as a harsh reminder that there are still lessons to learn."
The installation will be on display daily from 3pm in TESTBED1, Battersea 11-17 August, with the private view taking place at 7pm Thursday 14 August.
