In the explosively creative jazz years of the fifties and sixties Gene Ammons’ big ‘Texas tenor’ sound made him a natural for Brandon to admire. “Allen is arguably the most exciting tenor player in Britain today” wrote Tony Hall, producer of Tubby Hayes’s first legendary albums, in Jazzwise.
