To celebrate Urban Food Fortnight, 12 – 28 September 2014, EastTwenty at the ArcelorMittal Orbit in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park is teaming up with Abbey Gardens, a volunteer led food-growing project in West Ham to host EastTwenty Local Feast on Wednesday 24 September 2014. Together they will create a menu which uses produce from the community garden and other local food growing projects in the London 2012 Host Boroughs. The event will mark the beginning of an ongoing partnership, with Abbey Gardens regularly supplying produce to EastTwenty for the Bar & Kitchen and Events menus.

Abbey Gardens is an open-access harvest garden where anyone is welcome to participate in the communal growing of flowers, fruit and vegetables. Their regular gardening sessions and larger events bring together people of all ages and backgrounds, giving them the opportunity to meet their neighbours, enjoy nature and learn many garden-related skills in a great community atmosphere.

The Trustees of Abbey Gardens commented, “We are really pleased to be working with EastTwenty on this special event - it's a great chance to make local connections and to spread the word about Abbey Gardens - one of Newham's hidden gems. We offer free gardening tuition, a chance to meet people, grow and harvest organic food and take part in some great events - come along and find out more - we are always keen to welcome new gardeners.”

EastTwenty Local Feast will start at 7pm with tickets priced at £25 per person, a donation from each ticket sold will go to Abbey Gardens. Dinner will include a unique two course menu created by Head Chef, Simon Monksfield and his team using locally-grown produce as far as possible, and a botanical cocktail. Sustain – the Alliance for Better Food & Farming will be on hand to give information and advice on food growing in London. Learn how to get your fingers green in London!

Urban Food Fortnight works by helping growers, large and small, to collaborate with other food and drink enterprises to create unique, innovative events based around the best of London’s larder.
