In 1555, Don Alonso de Ercilla, a 16th-century soldier-poet travelled from King Philip II’s court in Madrid to the New World. Based on his own experiences, he wrote La Araucana, a first-hand epic poem that recounted the conquest of Chile, a work that captured the heroism of the defeated indigenous Araucanian and is widely regarded as one of the most important works of the Spanish Golden Age.
Displaying their effortless inventiveness, comic verve and commedia dell’arte storytelling, Tryo Teatro Banda’s four actor-musicians play more than fifteen instruments in a wonderfully fun and subversive interpretation of de Ercilla’s epic. Join us for yet another genius play by Tryo who return to CASA to wow the audience after their 2012 sell-out performances of Pedro de Valdivia and Jemmy Button.
