In order to meet the ever increasing demand for electricity from an ever increasing global population, it will be necessary to turn to renewable sources. One area to which chemists can contribute effectively is in solar energy. Professor Lesley Yellowlees will describe dye sensitised solar cells and the research she and her team have undertaken in Edinburgh to characterise such cells using techniques such as UV/Vis and epr spectroelectrochemistry.
