Did you know that the first black female broadcaster at the BBC lived in Camberwell? Or that the first documented interracial marriage took place in Southwark in 1770?

This month CoolTan Arts Largactyl Shuffle invites you to participate in a Black History Walk through the streets of Southwark. Have fun, get fit, meet new people and find out about some of the most fascinating local figures in South London’s black history!

Along the route CoolTan’s friendly guides will lead you on a journey exploring local history and landmarks in an early celebration of Black History month.

Starting at the Maudsley Hospital in Denmark Hill, the walk will weave its way to Peckham, taking in some of the most significant sites in the area with talks and activities focused on famous local entertainers, artists and political figures, including William Cuffay, Una Marson, Olive Morris and Dr Harold Moody.

CoolTan Arts Largactyl Shuffle is a guided, stigma-busting cultural walk, designed to encourage mental and physical wellbeing; through art, exercise, humour and history.
The full walk is 4.8 miles and will last approximately 4 hours.

You can join for whatever tickles your fancy feet, whether it is half a mile, one mile or the full distance!! Please wear comfortable shoes and bring a bottle of water. Largactyl Shuffle walks are suitable for all levels of walking and are accessible to wheelchair users and people with disabilities.

The walk leaders wear orange high-viz vests and rucksacks. Call CoolTan Arts on 07985 658443 if you cannot find the group of walkers on the day.
