Broadgate has announced it will be hosting “Shakespeare in the City” – an event designed to showcase a contemporary take on the bard’s famous play The Merchant of Venice.

This story of love, friendship, conflict and money will be performed by London Contemporary Theatre, in Broadgate’s Exchange Square, in an open air, pop-up theatre. It will be a version accessible for all ages and include dramatic acts and live music that will guarantee to give the play a truly cinematic feel. There will be a show on Wednesday 8th and Thursday 9th October starting at 6.30pm. Arrive from 5:30pm to grab your spot on one of the comfy deckchairs provided and remember to wrap up warm.

The Merchant of Venice begins with a young man named Bassanio, who is desperately in need of money to court a wealthy heiress named Portia. He asks his friend Antonio for a loan in order to travel in style to Portia’s estate. Antonio agrees, but suggests that Bassanio should secure the loan from Shylock, one of the city’s prominent moneylenders.

Seats will be available on a first come first served basis. Drinks and food can be purchased from C&B Exchange Square. Don’t worry if it rains as there will be some covered seating. For more information on “Shakespeare in the City” please visit: www.broadgate.co.uk/shakespeare.
