A wonderful event that Poet in the City will be hosting to mark the end of a yearlong project we have been working on. Our Poetry Portraits event will combine fine art with poetry, a unique method that artists from Lavender Hill Studio's have captured showing some of the UK's leading poets in their paintings.

This will be an exciting event which will feature the work of many renown poets such as the late Seamus Heaney, Sir Andrew Motion and Wendy Cope, all of which have been captured in stunning portraits. Author and presenter of BBC Radio 4, Peggy Reynolds, will be one of the many speakers who will discuss what it means to be a poet and explain the relationship between poetry and identity in relation to the portraits.

Margaret Reynolds is Professor of English at Queen Mary, University of London, presenter of BBC Radio 4 ‘Adventures in Poetry’, and the author of The Sappho History(2003).

Wendy Cope is Patron of Poet in the City. Two Cures for Love: Selected Poems 1979-2006 was published in 2008. In 2010 she was awarded an O.B.E. Her most recent collection of work, Family Values, was published by Faber in 2011.

Jo Shapcott is patron of Poet in the City. Her latest collection, Of Mutability, won the Costa prize in 2010. In 2011 she was awarded the Queen’s Gold Medal for Poetry.
