Ebo Taylor is more than worthy of this legendary status Starting out in Ghana in the 1950s, he was influenced by Highlife pioneer E.T. Mensah, who mixed West African influences with American big band styles brought to the region during the Second World War.
He first made his name as the leader, arranger and frontman of two of the country’s greatest Big-bands, The Stargazers and the Broadway Dance Band. In 1962 he took his own group, the Black Star Highlife Band, to London, which led to collaborations with Fela Kuti and other African musicians in Britain at the time. His music combines traditional Ghanaian material with afro-beat, Jazz and funk rhythms to create his own recognizable sound.
Now 74 years-old, Ebo Taylor's music has become increasingly in-demand in recent years with a series of Ghanaian compilations on Soundway Records and Analog Africa and an unexpected sample as Usher lifted a riff from 'Heaven' for his hit with Ludacris, 'She Don't Know'.
His multi-talented band have played key events all over the world and picked up awards and acclaim including this year picking up a Gilles Peterson Worldwide Awards in the genre Tropical Sound. This is a live show you definitely don’t want to miss out on!
