In the West our existence is increasingly defined by leisure. We watch and are watched, consume and are consumed in a fierce pursuit and display of leisure - holidays, cocktails, movies, magazines - and scrutinised through selfies, tweets and CCTV. Paul Lemmon's work is an attempt to capture that narcissistic/voyeuristic world and re-present it through paint rather than screen, immersing the viewer in the scene itself.

The Artist

Paul is a self-taught artist and has practiced from his studio in South-West London for the past 10 years. He paints very rapidly with vigorous, bold and bright strokes of oil paint from source material comprising a mixture of his own photography and movie stills. Characterised by ruthless cropping, vivid colour and movement, his compositions are usually excecuted in many layers with the canvas on the floor, Pollock-style.

Apostrophe & the Arts

The Blink of an Eye is the fourth exhibition to be held at Apostrophe Brewer Street since it opened in June 2013. The exhibition is part of our ongoing commitment to supporting London-based artists.
