Artist Statement

My artwork is the best way I have of seeking out and expressing the positive in life. It constantly challenges me to keep looking and learning in order to express what is important to me. Each new artwork is a voyage – an exploration of form, colour and meaning. Each is unique.

This idea for this exhibition comes from something Matisse said:

‘When we speak of nature it is wrong to forget that we are ourselves a part of nature. We ought to view ourselves with the same curiosity and openness with which we study a tree, the sky or a thought, because we too are linked to the entire universe.’

Nature in its many forms is a vital source of inspiration for me, so I thought it would be interesting to show a group of my figure drawings alongside other works depicting other living things, such as plants and sea life.
