As Anise Gallery embarks on its 3rd Charity Christmas Auction the list of generous and willing participants continues to grow and overwhelm us. The hope this year is to raise as much money as possible for Maggie’s Centres. A remarkable charity that was set up by Maggie Keswick Jencks. Whilst living with advanced cancer for two years, she used her knowledge and experience to create a blueprint for a new type of care for cancer patients. Maggie’s Centres are built around her belief that people should not “Lose the joy of living in the fear of dying”. The first Maggie’s Centre opened in Edinburgh in 1996, there are now 17 Maggie’s Centres at major NHS cancer hospitals in the UK and abroad, as well as one online.
One of the fundamental beliefs behind the centres is that they should be uplifting places, full of light and open space. Great architecture is vital to the care Maggie’s offers. They therefore  turn to great architects to design their centres who offer their unique interpretations to the Maggie’s brief, creating individual spaces of solace and care
We are pleased to say that of these architects, many have generously donated works to the auction; Ted Cullinan, Alison Brooks, Piers Gough and Chris Wilkinson. They will be sharing wall space with the gallery’s own fantastic artists alongside names such as Ben Johnson, Norman Ackroyd, Peter Murray and Jeanette Barnes who will join a host of leading architects such as Stuart Piercy, Jack Pringle, Christophe Egret, Rab Bennetts and Je Ahn and the best in architectural photography from the likes of Paul Raftery and John MacLean. The work offered at this auction will be nothing short of outstanding.
View the art work in the gallery  from Thursday 20th November at 11am, start bidding online from Friday 26th November and then join us on Saturday 6th December for a festive afternoon of mulled wine, carols and that final chance to win the bid before it all closes at 8pm.
Help us in raising as much money as possible for Maggie’s, invest in a fantastic piece of art work from your favourite artist or architect, join us to celebrate the festive season - whatever your reasons we hope to welcome you to the gallery on Saturday 6th December between 12pm and 8pm.
