Exhibition Opening: Takk Fyrir

Marc Sethi is a photographer based in London, working on music, editorial, and commercial campaigns. He travels for work and pleasure, and after numerous visits to Reykjavik decided to complete a personal landscape project while on a walking break with friends. This expedition led them to the South of the Island, around the black sand coastline, and into the Þórsmörk national park. These photographs were taken over a ten day period at the beginning of June 2014. All images were shot on 35mm film.

When I walk there comes a point where everything becomes clear. The conversations, arrangements, appointments, edits, and emails; mind static disappears, and all that is left is the place where I am.

The camera is an anchor to a clear state of mind, a tool that demands awareness from the user, one which has become fundamental to my life. Its accompaniment on my journey through Iceland's dramatic and poetic landscape was essential.

My experiences of walking have always involved both physical and mental wandering through landscapes, not always present, but often visiting past encounters in mind.

Photographing the Icelandic geography, the harsh and constantly changing weather systems, the pure and isolated nature of the island, formed part of my journey to a balanced state of mind.
