Sightsavers opens its exhibition to the public which features portraits by The Guardian photographer Graeme Robertson, who travelled with the international development organisation to visit social inclusion projects in Uganda, East Africa and Rajasthan, North India.

This exhibition aims to bring to life the stories of people with disabilities living in developing countries, some are stories of exclusion and some are of empowerment.

Around one billion people – or 15 per cent of the world’s population – have a disability, and in many countries they are the most excluded and hardest to reach of all groups in their community.

For some this means living with the devastating impact of exclusion. They are less likely to have access to healthcare and education, and in turn find earning a livelihood and lifting themselves out of poverty that much more difficult, if not impossible.

Sightsavers’ Put Us in the Picture campaign aims to change this and make sure the rights and voices of people with disabilities are no longer ignored in the global fight against poverty.
