Akemi Solloway, renowned Japanese cultural expert and founder of charity Aid For Japan, hosts a Japanese cultural taster day this Saturday to introduce traditional arts to Chelsea locals ahead of the festive season.

Miss Solloway will offer a variety of taster sessions during the one-day event to raise funds for Aid For Japan, which supports children who were orphaned during the 2011 triple disaster in Japan, including:

• Traditional tea ceremony
• Furoshiki gift wrapping
• Kimono dressing (including the chance for visitors to dress up and take a #selfie)
• Traditional dance
• Sake tasting

The event is supported by Collectionaires, Europe’s only specialist retailer of multiple Japanese designer clothing brands, and will take place in their popup shop on King’s Road, Chelsea.

For a limited time only, Collectionaires will also be selling a new selection of contemporary Japanese furoshiki (scarves) - which can also be used as simple neck scarves and impromptu shopping bags, as well as for gift wrapping - on behalf of Aid for Japan, with all profits going directly to the charity.

Also supporting the day is Sam Sake, an importer and retailer of high quality sake, who is currently running a ‘hidden’ sake bar in the shop’s basement, which will also be open throughout the day.

This event is open to all, with spaces allocated on a first-come, first serve basis. All donations collected on the day will go towards supporting the efforts of Aid For Japan.
