Morley Gallery hosts the touring exhibition ‘House of the Flying Wheel’ from Backlit Gallery in Nottingham. Curated by Matthew Chesney and John Harris, the exhibition explores the legacy of Samuel Morley through five contemporary artists. All working in different media, film, light, sculpture and installation, this engaging exhibition challenges a more conventional celebration of the life of Morley College’s patron and benefactor.
The exhibition reinterprets the heritage of Morley, his radical approach in the 1800’s, his political actions in the abolition movement to end slavery and his ethos of giving fair wages and free education to the working class.
