But the city was there, close to me, looking over my shoulder, holding up the prism through which I understood the world…' (Ahdaf Soueif).

My City… My Revolution… explores a woman’s fractured journey where the act of walking triggers the multiple narratives engrained in the fabric of a city… where a city becomes the site of displacement and alternative revolutions.

In a multilayered form of storytelling that synthesizes physical performance, visuals, text and video, My City… My Revolution… weaves autobiographical and historical narratives that stem from the experience of an Egyptian woman living a revolution that redefines her relationship to two cities: London and Cairo. Parallel stories then unfold and contrast, hers and others', speaking of home, the city, longing and belonging, and the melancholic tension of a dual existence, where urban, psychological and cultural geographies are doubled and juxtaposed.

Based on the text "Cairo: My City, My Revolution" by Nesreen Hussein, published in Performance and the Global City. Eds. Kim Solga and D.J. Hopkins (Palgrave 2013). This is the performance's first stage of development, conceived by Nesreen Hussein in collaboration with visual artist Mahmoud Hamdy and performer Vanio Papadelli.
