Join up and coming Playwright Diana Nneka Atuona in conversation with Journalist and Playwright Juliet Gilkes Romero

Following her dream of becoming a playwright, Diana Nneka Atuona’s first play Liberian Girl was placed in the top 25 plays for the Verity Bargate Award and was longlisted for the 2013 Bruntwood Prize. Liberian Girl went on to win the 2013 Alfred Fagon Award for Best New Play of the Year. In June 2014, a staged presentation of Liberian Girl was performed at the Summit to end Sexual Violence during Conflict. The summit was hosted by William Hague MP and Special Envoy to the UN, Angelina Jolie. Liberian Girl is currently playing at the Royal Court (7th - 31st January) then transfers to the CLF Art Café at the Bussey Building in Peckham and the Bernie Grant Arts Centre in Tottenham.

Juliet Gilkes Romero is a journalist and playwright. She freelances for Sky News and has been a television journalist with the BBC reporting from countries including Cuba, Ethiopia, Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Juliet’s latest play Upper Cut opened at Southwark Playhouse (14th January - 7th February 2015). Her play Razing Cane was shortlisted for the Alfred Fagon Award. One Hot Summer, a radio play, aired as an Afternoon Play on BBC Radio4 in 2012. In 2009 Juliet won the Best Play Award by the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain for her play At The Gates of Gaza (Birmingham Rep and UK tour ’08).

The evening includes a raffle to win a selection of play anthologies from Oberon Books and a grand prize of either Theatre Tokens or a pair of theatre tickets.
