In the mountainous border area of Myanmar, there lies the region of Kokang. Decades of political conflict and isolation have impoverished the region, and ethnic groups living here have traditionally received minimal attention and support.
Whilst Myanmar as a whole is one of the world’s least developed countries, many of the people in Kokang live well below the poverty line. Poor health outcomes exist across the entire country, but the local health conditions in Kokang paint an even more devastating picture.
Health Poverty Action has been working in country for many years, supporting civil society and local authorities to help improve the health of ordinary people. We also work directly alongside marginalised communities to help strengthen them in their struggle for health.
Funded by the European Union, this photography exhibition offers a unique glimpse into the lives of some of the most remote communities in Myanmar, and how Health Poverty Action is supporting them to live healthier lives.
