It’s not easy, having a brilliant idea pop into your head.
Especially when the idea is so brilliant that it will shatter the human race’s very understanding of its place in the cosmos.
Why, your wife would be worried!
Your peers would be perplexed!
The church would be churlish!
Your Father would be furious!
Charles initially opts for the hush-hush approach. He hides his idea in a chest, and gets on with his massive treatise on the blasted boring barnacle. But then, out of nowhere, an audience appears to watch him work, and he just can’t keep his big mouth shut. And as if that wasn’t bad enough, a letter arrives which will change Mr Darwin’s life forever.
“The Origin of Species…” is the first part in Tangram Theatre Company’s trilogy of scientific musical comedies. It was a complete sell-out at Edinburgh Fringe 2009, and was nominated for Best Performer and Best Theatre Show at the Adelaide Fringe Awards 2012. In 2013 it was followed by “Albert Einstein: Relativitively Speaking”, which quickly likewise became an award-winning international hit.
Now Charles Darwin is back on the road to challenge your preconceptions and break frequently into song.
Bring your monkeys!
“John Hinton is an absolute joy…You can’t help thinking: this guy would get anyone interested in science.”
