Human Rights Watch Film Festival Special

Minnjiaraby is a band founded in 2001 by Senegalese guitarist, singer and composer Abdoulaye Samb. His original compositions and explosive performances are inspired by Fula and Mandinka cultures amongst many others. At a young age influenced by the beautiful scenery In his seaside town, he suddenly had the urge to create his own sound, so grabbed all the tools he could find, and made his own guitar with fishing rods and a petrol can. The guitar has been his favourite instrument ever since...and has taken him a long way. The name of his band means "The love of cultural mixing", which expresses the richness of Senegalese traditions and ethnies, the beauty in them getting together. The music has grown from Abdoulaye's travels, collaborations and researches in Africa and Europe.
