Big businesses and banks are often seen as culprits in a world of appalling economic disparities. Is there another side of the coin? What if they can contribute towards human wellbeing and the common good? Two guest speakers will lead a discussion on the role that the corporate world can play in helping to transform the world for the better.

Lucy Parker has spent much of her working life as a documentary-maker for the BBC. She went on to make films about businesses around the world and has worked as a coach and adviser to the leaders of some of the world’s biggest companies. In government, she led the Prime Minister’s Taskforce on Talent and Enterprise, focused on the importance of skills to competitiveness in the global economy. Today, Lucy and Jon Miller are working together on one of the world’s most contentious challenges: helping companies get to grips with their role in society. They are partners of the Brunswick Group, one of the world’s leading corporate communications firms. She is the co-author, with Jon Miller, of the compelling business book Everybody’s Business.

After 16 years in investment banking, Deborah Henderson became convinced that large global corporates have a major role in shaping the world for the better. She retrained as an executive coach, team alignment facilitator and organisational culture consultant to help business leaders fulfil that mission. She founded Centre for Inspired Leadership in 2001. CIL works closely with leaders and their top teams to build aligned, purpose-led, values-driven organisational cultures, especially needed in our increasingly VUCA world—volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous. CIL specialises in helping leaders in financial services to re-shape their organisational cultures to re-build trust. Deborah will share her journey from banker to coach to bankers and some key observations about the common features of great leaders and organisational cultures. CIL begins an assignment using a simple, powerful online survey to measure the health of organisational culture. The three question survey first looks at Personal Values. Try out this part of the survey for yourself before the evening by going to: www.valuescentre.com/pva You will immediately receive a free report.

The evening will be hosted by IofC UK’s Business Programme.
