St Paul's Sinfonia marks its 10th birthday, and makes its South Bank debut, with a scintillating programme that exemplifies its creative and eclectic repertoire.

The concert opens with a Sinfonia speciality, and a work written for a birthday — Wagner's sublime Siegfried Idyll. We then move to Paris in 1940 for Stravinsky’s neo-classical Symphony in C, full of the composer's vivid orchestral textures and rhythmic drive.

In the second half, the superb young British cellist Guy Johnston joins the Sinfonia for a thrilling performance of Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto No.1. No—one who saw Guy win the BBC Young Musician of the Year in 2000 will forget his virtuoso playing and artistic spirit. The concert closes with a classical masterpiece — and another symphony inspired by Paris — Mozart's Symphony No.31.
