Heated Words Presents 'Initial Research' Private View

An exhibition of photography and ephemera chronicling the journey of a forgotten typeface across the subcultural diaspora.
Heated Words: Initial Research is an immersive mixed media primer that serves as introduction to an ongoing investigation in to the life and times of a forgotten typeface.

Heated Words is centered in and around a specific, anonymous, defunct typeface that only existed as iron-on flock lettering. Appearing on numerous items of D.I.Y clothing, and making predominant appearances within the documentation of subcultures between the early 70’s to late 80’s, the typeface was used by: Little League teams, street gangs, B-Boys, Punks, Pop Artists, Pop Stars, Disco Dancers and the entire squadrons of Double Dutch skipping troupes. This exhibition serves to illustrate an ongoing investigation to discover the true identity of a folk-lore typeface that never made it to the post analogue era. This journey of discovery encompasses some of pop cultures most pivotal people, places, brands and seminal moments in its history. Malcolm Mclaren, The Clash, Biz Markie, Ramellzee, Big Audio Dynamite, Rock Steady Crew, Rock City Crew, Furious Rockers and the Ebonettes all have a relationship with this typeface and feature within Heated Words.
