The number of Londoners is due to increase by a figure equivalent to the population of Birmingham in the next 10 years, this is set to have a dramatic effect on capital's the built form and social mix and nowhere more so than in its outer-lying boroughs. A substantial quantity of new housing is now being built beyond Zone 2, much of it sited in anticipation of the completion of Crossrail. Meanwhile large numbers of Londoners priced out of the city centre are already in the process of relocating outwards - a phenomenon that is affecting existing communities for both good and bad.

Doughnut offers a celebration of the culture of outer London and an opportunity to interrogate its rapidly emerging future.

Curated by The Architecture Foundation, in partnership with the writer Will Self, the day-long programme will include contributions from historians, architects, artists and politicians addressing topics ranging from the future of Croydon to the sanctity of the Green Belt.
