The Jam: About the Young Idea is the first retrospective exhibition to chart the iconic British band’s ascent, from teen lyric-writing in Woking to a legendary farewell gig in Brighton. When Paul Weller, Rick Buckler and Bruce Foxton hit the British punk scene in 1977 with their first song, In The City, they gave voice to the disaffected youth of 1970s Britain.

Held at Somerset House this Summer, the curators have had unprecedented access to previously unseen material. For the very first time, all three members of the band –Paul Weller, Rick Buckler and Bruce Foxton –the Weller family and music archivist Den Davis have opened up their archives, especially for the Somerset House show.

Fred Perry are proud to present our own extension of The Jam: About the Young Idea, with never-before-seen archive pieces not included in the main exhibition.
Fred Perry and The Jam fans alike are invited to 9 Henrietta Street to unlock additional archive items while viewing The Jam’s rich treasure trove of music videos in the space.

Highlights at Henrietta Street:
Paul Weller’s Rickenbacker 12 String, Maplegloelectric guitar used in The Jam’s Funeral Pyre music video in 1981.
A Solid Bond tour t-shirt from 1982 belonging to the late Dave Liddle, Paul’s much loved guitar tech who could often be seen jamming on stage with the band at live shows
Original tour posters from 1978, 1979 and 1982 including a homemade poster from a gig at Lancaster University in 1979
Unseen transparencies from SFX and The NME shoots with The Jam
