Brazil Day 2015 is an early opportunity to celebrate the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

One year from now, on 5th August 2016, Rio de Janeiro will launch the Games of the XXXI Olympiad of the modern era, followed by the XV Summer Paralympic Games, the first time ever that these great sporting events will be held in South America.

The 2016 Rio Olympic Games will be held from 5 to 21 August 2016 and the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games from 7 to 18 September 2016.
To begin the 12-month countdown, the Ministry of Sport of Brazil and EMBRATUR - the Brazilian Tourism Board – have joined forces with the Embassy of Brazil in the United Kingdom to organize another Brazilian festival in Trafalgar Square, a free event celebrating Brazil’s culture and its passion for sports. The festival is supported by the Mayor of London.

Attractions will include beach volleyball in the square, a beach volleyball fitness class, a forró flash mob and a street carnival bloco which everyone will be welcome to follow through Trafalgar Square.

The live music on offer will present rhythms representing the cultural diversity of Brazil - from alluring bossa nova to captivating maracatu, from upbeat tecnobrega melodies to the empowering beat of a samba-school drummers.

To make sure the energy level never drops, food stalls will be selling Brazilian street food and refreshments. Look out for the churrasco barbecue, Amazonian superfood açaí, aipim frito (manioc chips), pão de queijo (cheesebread) and other treats.

The public will get a glimpse of Rio’s preparation as a host city to the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games as well as of Brazil’s diverse ecosystems, rich culture and varied possibilities for tourism, ranging from the world’s wonders of nature as the Iguassu Falls and Amazon Rainforest to the vibrant cultural life in the cities.

The first Brazil Day, in June 2014, was held in Trafalgar Square on the first day of the World Cup – more than 25,000 enjoyed music, dancing, football-themed events and various food stalls.

Importantly, in line with Brazil's commitment to tackle climate change, Brazil Day 2015 will be a carbon neutral event: direct emissions will be offset using UN carbon credits from the Clean Development Mechanism. The Embassy of Brazil has selected the international climate finance firm, Climate Mundial Limited, as its partner to calculate the emissions footprint, acquire and cancel the carbon credits for the event.
