BRING OUT THE BIG GUNS FOR FAMILY FUN THIS SUMMER

Firepower – The Royal Artillery Museum has announced its programme of family activities for the coming summer holidays. Firepower is always a favourite destination for families looking for a fun and interesting day out and this summer will be no exception. The famous museum has lined up activities that will guarantee that a visit to Firepower really does have something for the whole family.

Children can see what it’s like to take part in a military style drill led by real soldiers. marching, drilling and games are followed by the chance to try on military uniforms and hats for that unusual family photograph.
They can also talk to people around the world at Firepower’s own radio station. A daily prize treasure hunt around the museum invites children to find 12 ‘soldiers’ hidden throughout Firepower.

For the more artistic, they can take part in a free colouring competition for the chance to win a weekly prize.

There also some extra activities for which there is a small additional cost of £1.50 per activity. Children can have a go on a paintball range or try their strength balance and determination on the Firepower climbing wall. There will be the chance to ride in military vehicles too but perhaps the most exciting of all is the chance to fire a genuine Second World War 25 pounder gun. This is where dads try to jump the queue. Everyone who fires the gun gets a commemorative certificate.

“Firepower’s excellent Gun Pit Café serves tasty sandwiches, light meals, cakes and afternoon cream
teas,” says Firepower’s Eileen Noon “and our shop has got an excellent range to suit pocket-money
budgets too. We expect to be very popular with families this summer.”

Firepower - The Royal Artillery Museum is based at the Royal Arsenal, as it is the birthplace of the Royal Artillery which was founded at Woolwich in 1716. The history of artillery is illustrated by Firepower’s worldclass display of artillery from catapults to rockets, from the medieval battlefield to modern peacekeeping missions, the collections including uniforms, drawings, diaries and medals bring together 700 years of artillery and human history. Experiences at Firepower include the ground-shaking Field of Fire audiovisual show where visitors are put in the midst of battle as shells fly overhead and guns roar all around, giving an insight into the experiences of an artillery gunner.

Firepower is open from 10.30 to 5pm Wednesday to Sunday and is located in the historic Royal Arsenal in Woolwich, London, between the A206 and the Thames.

Admission costs: Adults £5.00, children £2.50, concessions £4.50. Discounted family tickets are also available.
