Backstage Forward brings you The Adding a piece of new writing by award wining playwright Ciarán Myers, playing at the Cockpit Theatre on 23 and 24 September 2015.

This dark comedy plays with sex, death, cuddles, puppetry, and finance for our modern recession-era generation as we follow a couple through the greatest sins of their life, and death. Taking inspiration from Elmer Rice’s classic The Adding Machine, Backstage Forward’s The Adding explores the intersections of purgatory in everyday life, with an original soundscape and innovative puppetry.

Backstage Forward also invites you to join us as we delve Into the Underworld of theatre production. We are breaking open the process in order to throw off the shrouds of mystery surrounding the backstage and production world. Over the next month follow the production process online with specially curated episodic videos. You can follow Backstage Forward on Tumblr (backstageforward.tumblr.com) for our living archive, an online scrapbook of designs, production team insights and interviews, and the real time development of the creative process.

Surrounding the shows there will also be free hands-on workshops for audiences to come and experience the backstage world up close and engage live with the process they’ve watched develop in pre-production.

Directed by Catherine Fowles, Written by Ciarán Myers. Set design by Maddie Hunter. Puppetry by Clotilde De Verteuil. Lighting design by Stella Cheung and Luke Goodlitt Stage Manager Frances White.
