Digital Design for Artists, Illustrators and Designers

Open your eyes to the ever evolving possibilities offered through new digital technologies. Each week we will demonstrate exciting, and often very simple, digital methods that you can use to help reinvent your current practice. If you have never used digital methods before you needn’t worry as we will teach you plenty of short cuts for image making as well tips and tricks to develop your digital skills with confidence. You will become familiar with the interface and tools of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, whilst learning how they can most effectively be utilised to support traditional image making. The course will cover a range of tools and methods, encouraging experimentation and a dialogue between both digital and traditional methods.

Topics include:

Translating hand drawn line work to vectors (Useful for 3d printing and laser-cutting)
Creating textures and image libraries
Digital collage
Making your own type
Cleaning up images
Preparing artwork for print processes requiring colour separation

Course Outcomes

You will leave the course with an understanding of the capabilities of digital software and an ability to translate your images to digital platforms with ease. You will have learnt a new range of tools that bring greater flexibility and speed to your working methods, useful when under pressure or meeting deadlines.
