Howard Blake will present this concert, performed by the acclaimed and versatile London chamber choir Canticum, conducted by Mark Forkgen, with James McVinnie, organist.
Howard Blake achieved international fame when he composed the music for the famous children’s film “The Snowman”, including its haunting theme “Walking in the Air”. He has produced more than 650 works in his 50-year career including concertos, oratorios, ballets, operas and many instrumental pieces, written for such occasions as the 30th birthday of Princess Diana (a Philharmonia commission), the United Nations 50th Anniversary and the Three Choirs Festival.
In this concert, Canticum performs a selection of Howard Blake’s varied choral writing ranging from sacred works – Jubilate Deo and Psalm 67 – to settings of George Herbert and Edith Sitwell poems, and of course “Walking in the Air” in a choral version. The evening will be a wonderful showcase for Howard Blake’s technical skills and memorable melodies.
