Waltham Forest People's Assembly invite you to a screening of Ken Loach's documentary 'Spirit of 45', examining the post war sense of optimism for a better life, for a peace dividend that led to the formation of our public services, our NHS, which now, just one generation on, we face losing. Seventy years later, as the government’s austerity policies are really beginning to bite how much have we changed and how much are we willing to lose? The 9pm screening will be directly followed by a Q&A with a panel of special guests

The Spirit of 45 is a documentary film that celebrates the huge changes in post-war Britain under Clement Atlee's Labour government. The film highlights the widespread grinding poverty in Britain during the 1930’s and the optimism and determination to build a better world after the Second World War. The film goes on to chronicle the subsequent dismantling of our NHS and public services, begun by the Thatcher government of 1979. As the present government austerity policies take devastating effect, now more than ever "It is time to remember the determination of those who were intent on building a better world" Ken Loach
Join us on 26 November at the Stratford picture house and have your chance to put your questions on the future of our public services to our panel.
