The ‘Bag to the Future’ installation is an otherworldly hall of mirrors representing 8,000 plastic bags that were swapped for reusable ones across north London.
The installation is the culmination of ‘Bag It Up + Reuse!’, a North London Waste Authority (NLWA) campaign to encourage the use of reusable shopping bags.
The campaign was devised as a response to the new 5p charge for single-use plastic bags, which only applies to large retailers. In an attempt to encourage customers of small businesses to also use reusable bags, participating small retailers offered customers a free reusable bag, in exchange for a used plastic bag.
This event is a part of the European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR), an initiative aimed at raising awareness about sustainable resource and waste management.
